Electro-acupuncture
Electro-acupuncture connects a small, steady current to a pair of acupuncture needles. It is felt as a tapping or humming, and you set how strong it is.
Who usually comes in
People who have tried plain acupuncture and want a different feel, or who carry tension in large muscles of the legs and back. It is a choice, not a step up.
What a visit is like, in order
You may feel tapping, humming or warmth. Tell us if it is sharp or uncomfortable and we turn it down or stop.
- 01
Step 1: We talk
Naoki asks about implants, heart devices and medicines before anything else.
- 02
Step 2: The needles go in
Needles are placed as usual, then clipped in pairs to a small device.
- 03
Step 3: You set the level
The current starts at nothing and rises slowly until you say it is enough. It runs for about 10 to 20 minutes.
- 04
Step 4: You rest
He turns it down before the clips come off, and then the needles are removed.
Tell us first
Say any of these when you book, and again at the visit.
A pacemaker or an implant
Electro-acupuncture is not used with a pacemaker or another implanted electrical device.
Seizures or a heart condition
Tell us. We may skip the current altogether.
Pregnancy
Tell us if you are or might be pregnant.
Blood thinners or bleeding
Tell us. Bruising is likelier, and we change how we work.
Lymph nodes removed
We keep needles away from that side.
Worry about the feeling
You control the dial and we can stop whenever you ask.
How many visits, and what this does not do
We try it once and ask how it felt. Many people prefer plain needles, which is a fine answer.
What it does not do
It does not replace your doctor's care, a physical therapist or a coach, and we do not ask you to stop any medicine. We do not promise a result: people respond differently.
When to see a doctor instead
See a doctor or an urgent care clinic first for sharp pain after a fall or a hit, a swollen joint you can't put weight on, a joint that gives way, new numbness or weakness, or a fever. For chest pain, trouble breathing or any emergency, call 911.
