Sports acupuncture in Redmond, Oregon

Acupuncture for people who train outside

Naoki Higa sees trail runners, Nordic and backcountry skiers and climbers before a season, between races and after a long day out. Visits are built around your calendar.

Before your first visit

Tell us what you do

We ask about your training, not a list of complaints. A sentence on each is plenty, in the contact form or on the phone.

  • Your sport

Trail running, Nordic skiing, ski touring, climbing, road or mountain biking, or something else. Add how many days a week you are out.

  • Your season

Where you are in the year: building a base, in the middle of racing, coming off an event or resting through mud season.

  • What is coming up

A race, a trip, a long route or the first day on snow. The date shapes how visits are spaced.

  • What else is in your week

Work on your feet or at a desk, a coach, a physical therapist, a gym session. We plan around all of it.

A visit

A visit built around your week

Visits start with a short talk about your training, then a few minutes of hands-on assessment, then needles and rest. Naoki uses fine, single-use needles, and sometimes cups or a gentle current. Most people lie still for 20 to 30 minutes.

  • First visit: about 90 minutes

  • Later visits: about 45 minutes

  • Shorts or loose pants that roll above the knee, and a tank or short sleeves

How fees work

  • Insurance we work with

Tamarack is out of network with every health plan, so we don't bill your plan. Some plans reimburse acupuncture when you send in a receipt, and many don't cover it.

    • Employer and marketplace plans: ask whether they reimburse acupuncture

  • If you pay yourself

Visits are paid when you are seen. Naoki shares the fee for your first visit and for each visit after it in writing before the first needle, and we can send it by text or email. HSA and FSA cards can often be used: ask your plan administrator. A few reduced-fee spots each week go to students and seasonal ski and trail crews, so ask when you book.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Your plan may reimburse part of the itemized receipt, called a superbill, that we give you after every visit, and your plan decides. Before you send it, ask your plan:

    • Is there an acupuncture benefit?

    • How many visits does it allow?

    • Is there a copay or a deductible?

    • Do I need a referral?

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to a good faith estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one in writing before your first visit. If a bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

Because we are out of network, we can't check your benefits for you. Call your plan before your first visit and ask the questions above.

  • What the first visit includes

A first visit takes about 90 minutes: a talk about your training and your season, a hands-on assessment, a treatment and a plan for what comes next. Later visits take about 45 minutes. We share the fee for each in advance, as above.

Who you will see

One acupuncturist, every visit

Tamarack has one clinician, so the person who plans your season is the person holding the needles.

Naoki plans visits around your calendar, not a fixed course, and tells you what he is doing before each needle goes in.
